One of the three Miller boys of Malice, Pennsylvania. The Miller boys were known to be bullies by just about everyone, but no one knew how dangerous that had become except little Mikey Maloy.

The summer after Urizen, the Miller boys were playing on the Devil's Right Hand and a small shard of the rock went into Preston's foot. He somehow absorbed or released a portion of Urizen's power and shared it with his brothers. Suddenly, they found they could do things with their minds - like making their teacher almost choke to death.

On Halloween, the boys slaughtered pigs and wore their heads as masks to torment little Mikey. Preston lost control of the evil and began to morph into a monster, but Spawn arrived and forced Urizen out of him.

After that day, Preston was terrified of the dark and unable to leave his home, while his brothers never spoke again.

A scientist who was working on cutting edge genetic technology including the creation of new genes. Gebhard was also dating pre-coma Jim Downing for a number of months during his experiments to create a super-human. Though they didn't “talk business” when they were together, eventually Downing's partner (Jason Wynn) began pressuring him to get more help from Gebhard.

Apparently, Jim and Gebhard were eventually married, as there was a wedding photo taken of the two of them together. Unfortunately, Downing began to agree with Wynn that his research was more important than his relationship and he murdered Gebhard and took all of her files to be used in his research. Years later, after Downing awoke from his coma, the wedding photo resurfaced by way of Bludd, and caused the CIA to become involved in Downing's new life.

A place between Heaven and Hell, where a soul could have a second chance at redemption. Souls sent to Purgatory were required to solve a large labyrinth and scale to the summit of its mountain in order to be redeemed. All the while, they would be tested by the sins they had committed.

Purgatory was governed by a being named Jonathan Edward Custer until orders from Heaven closed its gates and turned it into a training ground for the heavenly war-hosts.
